Trade Directories are a useful source of historical information. Baileys was published in 1783 and by the early19th Century Piggot's Directory was bring published every few years. By the 20th century Kelly's had become the standard directory.
As well as a general description of the district they cover most trades and also notable residents. As presumably the tradesman had to pay for an entry, the lists are by no means complete - for instance in Piggots1822 directory no Taverns or Public houses are listed in Broseley.
